Electronic Data Interchange
(EDI) is simply a means of electronically transferring information from
one computer system to another. A typical company uses EDI for both
inbound and outbound documents. Some examples of EDI transactions
supported by the MIS EDI Interfaces are:
Sales Orders
Invoices
Order Confirmation
Advance Shipping Notices
Catalog Releases
Purchase Orders
Functional Acknowledgments
Organizational Relationships
Inventory Information Transfer
Typically, a Value Added Network (VAN) like Harbinger, Sterling or Geisco is involved in the EDI Transaction. Many of these networks are private, but some use the Internet. Data is sent to and from the MIS system via Unix, NT- or Windows-based personal computers (depending upon the VAN and/or customer and vendor). Accu-Tech has assisted with and designed simple PC-based transactions, along with complex multi-level interfaces that communicate directly with your customer or vendors system.
